Historians from all Flemish universities collaborated to write a common opinion piece in the daily newspaper De Standaard, concerning the infamous "Flemish canon" (=a list of historical, cultural 'windows' that include the history of the Flemish region). Also Anne Winter and Wouter Ryckbosch of research group HOST co-authored the text.
They argue that the establishment of a canon contradicts historical thinking, in which it is essential to view history from different perspectives. Looking at history through a Flemish-national lense threatens to include dangers such as teleological views of the past and even state propaganda when it is used for education and integration purposes.
